a) Explain the difference in the sizes of the two tiff files in steps 1 and 2
The second tiff file has been compressed which makes it smaller in size.
b) When saving a JPEG file what two things change when you select a different quality factor?
Selecting a different quality factor changes the physical image size in MB and you loose quality resulting in loss of detail, creation or artifacts and blocking up of colour's.
c) What is 'dithering' and why is it used?
Dithering try's to create a tonal range by removing sharp edges creating an appearance of more colour than is actually available.
d) Explain the difference in size between the greyscale tiff file and the original tiff file.
The greyscale tiff has removed 2/3rds of the colour data in the image as greyscale mode only has 1 channel making the image physically smaller in size (MB).
